The phrases
보통 일곱 시에 일어나요
botong ilgop sie ireonayo
I usually get up at seven
보통 = usually. Hours take native numbers, and 에 marks the time.
아침을 먹고 회사에 가요
achimeul meokgo hoesae gayo
I have breakfast and go to work
아침 means both 'morning' and 'breakfast', the same way 저녁 does for evening.
지하철로 출근해요
jihacheollo chulgeunhaeyo
I commute by subway
(으)로 = 'by means of'. 지하철 + 로 comes out with a doubled ㄹ: jihacheollo.
점심은 보통 밖에서 먹어요
jeomsimeun botong bakkeseo meogeoyo
I usually eat lunch out
밖 = outside, 밖에서 = out (where the action happens).
저녁에 운동해요
jeonyeoge undonghaeyo
I exercise in the evening
운동 = exercise; add 하다 and it becomes the verb, like almost every noun.
주말에 뭐 해요?
jumare mwo haeyo?
What do you do at weekends?
주말 = weekend, 평일 = weekday.
가끔 영화를 봐요
gakkeum yeonghwareul bwayo
I sometimes watch a film
Frequency words go early: 항상 (always) · 자주 (often) · 가끔 (sometimes) · 거의 (hardly).
매일 한국어를 공부해요
maeil hangugeoreul gongbuhaeyo
I study Korean every day
매일 = every day, 매주 = every week, 매년 = every year.
자주 안 가요
jaju an gayo
I don't go often
자주 with a negative reads as 'not often', not 'often not'.
열한 시쯤 자요
yeolhan sijjeum jayo
I go to bed around eleven
쯤 = about, roughly. Attach it straight to a time or number.
오늘은 좀 바빴어요
oneureun jom bappasseoyo
Today was a bit busy
바쁘다 → 바빠요 → 바빴어요. The ㅡ drops, then the past marker goes on.
하루 종일 집에 있었어요
haru jongil jibe isseosseoyo
I was at home all day
하루 종일 = all day long.
밥 먹으러 가요
bap meogeureo gayo
I'm going to get something to eat
-(으)러 가다 = go IN ORDER TO do something. Consonant stem takes 으러 (먹으러), vowel stem just 러.
친구를 만나러 나가요
chingureul mannareo nagayo
I'm going out to meet a friend
만나 ends in a vowel, so it's 만나러. The verb at the end is always one of going or coming: 가다, 오다, 나가다.
