Kaja Hangul (kajahangul.com) is a small Korean-learning app run by one person. This page explains, in plain language, what data it collects, who else ever sees it, and the terms of use.

What we collect

• Your email address — to create your account, verify it, let you reset your password, and send you a daily practice reminder if you have not switched those off.
• Your password — stored only as a secure one-way hash (bcrypt). We never store or see your actual password.
• A name and avatar, if you set one — optional. Shown to you, and to anyone you add as a friend (see below).
• Your learning progress — your streak, XP, badges, the days you practised, and how well you know each card — so it syncs across your devices.
• Your friends list, if you use it — adding a friend is by invite code, and it is mutual: each of you sees the other's name, avatar, current streak and this week's XP. Nothing else — not your email, not which phrases you got wrong. Share your code only with people you want seeing that; you can remove a friend at any time and the visibility ends both ways.
• Your time zone — so a reminder email arrives in your morning rather than somebody else's. It is taken from your browser, not from your location.
• Basic technical logs — standard server logs (timestamps, errors) used to keep the service running and secure.

How we use it

Only to run the app: signing you in, syncing your progress, sending account and reminder emails, and preventing abuse. We do not sell your data, share it with anyone except the processors listed below, or use it for advertising. There is no analytics or tracking of any kind on this site — no trackers, no third-party scripts beyond the signup bot check, and the fonts are served from this site rather than a third-party CDN, so simply reading a page here tells no one else anything.

Cookies

We use a single essential, HTTP-only session cookie to keep you logged in. No tracking or advertising cookies. Bot protection on signup is provided by Cloudflare Turnstile.

Your microphone

Some exercises let you speak your answer instead of typing it, by tapping the 🎤 button. This is entirely optional, nothing listens unless you press that button, and every exercise that offers the microphone also accepts typing. What happens to the recording depends on which feature you are using, and the difference matters:

• Speaking your answer uses your browser's own speech service. In Chrome and Safari that means the audio goes to Google or Apple to be turned into text. It does not reach this site — only the text you then choose to submit does.

Third parties

These are the companies that receive any of your data, and only the minimum needed to do their job:

• Cloudflare — serves the site and provides the signup bot check.
• A transactional email provider — delivers verification, password-reset and reminder emails.
• Google or Apple — if you use the 🎤 button, which is available to everyone.

Where it lives, and who can see it

The database runs on a private server operated by the site's owner, not on a cloud platform. The owner can see your email address, your progress and whether your email is verified — this is how accounts are administered and how the AI tutor is granted. Nobody else has access.

How long we keep it

Your account and progress are kept until you delete them. Server logs are short-lived. Verification and reset tokens expire and are stored only as hashes.

Your control over your data

You can change your email, name and password, or delete your account, at any time from the profile page in the app. Deleting removes your account, your email address and all stored progress permanently — there is no recovery and no soft-delete. If you would like a copy of your data instead, email the address below and you will get one.

Age

This app is not aimed at children. Please do not create an account if you are under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK) without a parent or guardian's involvement.

Terms of use

Kaja Hangul is provided as-is, with no warranty, as a personal learning project by one person in their spare time. It may change, break, or go away. Please use it lawfully and don't attempt to disrupt or abuse the service; access may be limited or removed for abuse. Course content is the owner's work and is for your personal learning use. These terms may change; continued use means you accept the current version.
